Rugby is the main winter sport for boys at Ixopo High.  Rugby at Ixopo is steeped in tradition with the game being introduced in 1924.

The 1st rugby field was laid out on the bank of the Ixopo River.

The school has six rugby teams in the field every Saturday and the popularity of the sport has grown in recent years.

Cricket.

Ixopo High School offers all the necessary ingredients for young aspiring cricketers.

Our facilities include cricket fields, nets, a bowling machine and a group of very dedicated coaches.

Every week, provided we have sufficient opposition, our school is capable of fielding 5 highly competitive cricket teams!  (2 x U14, 1 x U15, a 1st and 2nd team)

Our boys are regulary selected for reprensentitive teams and always compete at a high level.

Our athletics team is a rapidly growing one with loads of potential.  Mthabisi Mthembu (U17) went to Germiston, (Gauteng) to participate in an interprovincial meeting.   He was placed 9th and has been awarded honours by the school for representing KZN.

3rd Term will see the start of inter-house athletics at the school.

Keep watching to see who will win this year!

Netball.

Although netball has only recently been introduced into the sporting cirriculum at Ixopo High School, it has proved to be very popular and in 1987 we boasted with a total of 6 teams representing the school at various levels.

Coaching sessions are held twice weekly and competitive games against local as well as schools from Pietermaritzburg regoin are held on a regular basis.

1997 was the 1st time that the school took part in the Midlands Netball Trials.  Six of our players made the semi-finals and Tina Mzoneli was selected as a member of the U16 A Midlands team.  She has been reselected for the last 2 years.

Cycling.

We have 9 regular cyclists in our club and we concentrate on Mountain biking.  Ixopo is surrounded by a beautiful countryside and the roads, paths and firebreaks in the Pine, Wattle and Gum plantations offer cyclists the ideal surroundings to practise their sport.

The occasional swim in a remote plantation dam adds to the adventure.

During the year we participate in fun events throughout KZN and from time to time we undertake cycling tours to neighbouring town some 100km's away.

Swimming.

Despite our unpredictable weather conditions, swimming remains a popular sport for both experienced swimmers and beginners.  Coaching is provided 4 afternoons per week.   Approimatley 30 pupils have become water-safe and many more are able to swim competently.  Over the years the school has produced several Natal Country District Swimmers.

Some of our students have been selected for the KZN Midlands C Team in 2002.  We now combine with St Patricks and King Edward to form the Higland team to swim at the Co-Ed Gala.

In 2002, , we lost in the semi finals - 40 schools were involved.

In the Sports against Crime Tournament, in 2001, we came 2nd, competing against 12 schools.
